Princy Louis Palatty, Edmond Fernandes, Supraja Suresh, M S Baliga

Introduction: The quality of life is often compromised in law students and medical students due to lack of sleep and often this goes undiagnosed leading to mental stress in most of these students. Hence a comparative study
Subjects and methods: The study was carried out among the medical and law student population at a Law College and Medical College. 186 law students and 293 medical students were included in the survey. The data was collected from a questionnaire
completed by the students.
Discussion: The tests reveal that among the law students, 60.8% have reported that they wake up fully refreshed after a good nights sleep as opposed to just 47.1% of the medical students. Initial insomnia occurs more frequently (among 19.4%) of the medical student population.
Conclusion: sleep behaviour in Medical students needs improvement as compared to Law students. The Law students have relatively easier course of study that have no high stress and time constraints that could account for the sleep detriments among Medical students.
